This Guy Worked Out Like Anime Hero ‘One Punch Man’ for 100 Days

A popular fitness challenge on YouTube involves recreating the rigorous training regime of hero Saitama from the anima series One Punch Man, who performs the same routine of exercises every single day, to the point that he has surpassed all of his physical limitations. A number of influencers have tried following the workout for a day, or a month, or 100 days, or even 300 days, frequently finding that the relentless volume of reps (and total lack of rest days) take a real physical toll.

In a recent video, vlogger Ozkar is the latest to take on Saitama’s grueling training and record the results. For anyone who is still unfamiliar with the One Punch Man workout, here’s what it comprises:

  • 100 pushups
  • 100 situps
  • 100 squats
  • 10-km / 6.2-mile run

Ozkar starts off slow and eases into the challenge, beginning with a 5-km run and 50 reps of each exercise in the first week in order to allow his body to adjust, then increasing the volume over the following weeks. He also incorporates mobility exercises at the top of each workout in order to avoid injury, and adopts a high-protein, low-carb diet.

While Ozkar is able to adjust to the increasing number of reps and his endurance improves during the running, around the four-week mark he learns he is developing shin splints, a common side-effect of overtraining in runners. While the best thing to do here would be take a break from the challenge (or at least the running portion thereof), Ozkar decides to forge ahead, investing in a pair of running shoes with pronation to help alleviate the pain in his lower legs.

On Day 1, Ozkar weighs 193 pounds, with 26.3 percent body fat. 100 days later, he has lost 28 pounds, and his body fat has dropped to 18.4 percent. It’s a drastic visible transformation, which Ozkar captures in a time-lapse video of photos taken every single day that he was doing the One Punch Man workout.

“It’s honestly surprising what a simple workout like this, paired with the right diet, can achieve,” he says. “Honestly this challenge really inspired me, because it’s a great wy to motivate yourself if you do a video, if you do pictures of yourself every day. I highly recommend this to everyone.”
