The 2021 fantasy football season has started, and as we look around the Week 1 slate in the NFL, there are some sleeper quarterbacks to target.
Week 1 of the NFL schedule has kicked off with the Thursday night matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys. In that game, there are some legitimate fantasy football options at quarterback, as Tom Brady and Dak Prescott are must-starts from week to week.
Here, we look at ten sleeper quarterbacks to target, and some of them may surprise.
10 QB sleepers to target for fantasy football 2021 Week 1
Teddy Bridgewater vs. New York Giants
The Denver Broncos decided to roll with Teddy Bridgewater over Drew Lock this offseason, and that could net some big results in Week 1. The New York Giants have done a decent job revamping their defense and should be strong in the secondary, but there are also a lot of weapons at Bridgewater’s disposal in this one.
From Noah Fant at tight end to the combination of Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton on the outside, the Broncos should be able to get the ball rolling in terms of the passing game. Also, Bridgewater still has the ability to get the job done on the ground, and if they get close, I could see him scoring on a bootleg or direct run.
Overall, the Giants are not a team that is going to be able to stop the Broncos consistently on Sunday, and they are actually a home underdog. Expect Bridgewater to take advantage of that, as he gets used to his new weapons a year removed from being the starter in Carolina.
Sam Darnold vs. New York Jets
The story of Sam Darnold’s time in New York is an interesting one, as he fell to them in the draft, and was seen as the next Joe Namath. Unfortunately, the Jets also did nothing to help his development, brought in a terrible coach in Adam Gase, and when the opportunity arose to draft Zach Wilson, they sent him packing.
On Sunday, Darnold will not only make his first start for the Carolina Panthers, but he is going to be doing it against those same Jets, and their new young quarterback in Wilson. With the Jets, Darnold was void of weapons, and the one player he connected with, Robby Anderson, is now with him in Carolina.
Also, the Panthers will be getting a healthy Christian McCaffrey back, who could be the Comeback Player of the Year, so Darnold will have plenty of weapons to throw to in Week 1. This could be a huge season for Darnold, and a chance to prove against his former team that they made the wrong decision in trading him away from this offseason.
