It didn’t take long for the Jon Gruden to USC rumors to heat up

Almost immediately after Jon Gruden announced his resignation as Raiders head coach, USC football fans wondered if he might take over the Trojans.

It took two games for USC football to fire head coach Clay Helton after years of underperforming in Los Angeles. The question of who will replace him looms large this fall.

The Raiders face a similar question after the resignation of head coach Jon Gruden over controversial emails he sent as a broadcaster, which were uncovered in a probe into workplace misconduct in Washington.

There are some in Los Angeles wondering if Las Vegas’ loss could be USC’s gain.

Jon Gruden will not be a USC coaching candidate

Before we go any further, the answer is absolutely no. USC will not hire Gruden, even if he was interested.

The Trojans have dealt with enough controversy in recent years, the last thing athletic director Mike Bohn will want to do is invite criticism by hiring a coach who lost his job over an ugly email scandal.

That won’t stop USC fans from suggesting the idea, of course. There are a lot of Trojan fans who want Bohn to go after another embattled figure, Urban Meyer, despite his questionable actions over the years.

USC fans want the administration to bring in a winner. The key will be to find a winner who also doesn’t have a whole lot of baggage to bring along with them.
